Vice Minister and China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua: Mutually Beneficial and Win-win Cooperation Serves the Fundamental Interests of China and EU

On the afternoon of April 29, Vice Minister of Commerce and China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua attended and addressed the inaugural ceremony of China-Europe Business Council hosted by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

Yu Jianhua said that as President Xi Jinping pointed out, where and how China-Europe relations will go should be decided from a strategic perspective. With political guidance as its advantage, the commercial cooperation between China and Europe is mutually beneficial and win-win by nature and serves the interest of both sides. In 2020, the volume of bilateral trade in goods and services approached USD1 trillion while the aggregate two-way investment topped USD250 billion. China and Europe share common interests and similar grounds in such areas as joint response to the pandemic, economic recovery, safeguarding the multilateral trading system and coping with the global climate change. The mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Europe is not only good for China and Europe, but the world at large. China is fostering a new development paradigm with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other. China will continue to expand high-level opening up, make the business environment better and get deeply engaged in economic globalization. All these will create a broader prospect for business cooperation between Chinese and European companies.

Yu Jianhua said that the launching of China-Europe Business Council by ICBC in collaboration with Chinese and European enterprises will inject more positive energy into China-Europe relationship, reduce the fluidity and uncertainty in the world, and add certainties and stability to the China-Europe trade and economic ties. He hoped that the CEBC can pool wisdom and forge consensus of Chinese and European businesses, build the bridge of trust, cooperation, green growth, digital cooperation and friendship, take the lead in maintaining the overall bilateral commercial cooperation, support the multilateral trading system, step up practical cooperation across the board and play a positive role in making the pie of China-Europe business cooperation bigger and deliver more benefits to both peoples.

The CEBC is initiated by ICBC and participated by 52 companies from China and Europe. The inaugural ceremony also issued the Initiative on Launching China-Europe Business Council.
