Yu Jianhua: Promote steady, sustained, and results-oriented China-Uzbekistan trade and economic cooperation

The seventh meeting of the Sub-Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held on the afternoon of September 8, co-chaired by Yu Jianhua, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, and Voitov Aziz, First Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan. The two sides exchanged views on ways to implement the consensus of the two leaders and deepen results-oriented bilateral cooperation.

Yu Jianhua noted that in their phone call last April, President Xi Jinping and President Mirziyoyev reached important consensus to strengthen epidemic control and deepen results-oriented trade and economic cooperation. Under the strategic leadership of the two Presidents, China and Uzbekistan have carried out effective joint COVID-19 response, and the first batch of jointly produced vaccines have been rolled out. New progress has been scored in bilateral trade and economic cooperation, with strong recovery in trade and steady progress in investment, despite the impact of COVID-19.

Yu Jianhua said that China is willing to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with Uzbekistan. To enhance strategic alignment, China is ready to discuss and sign the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation Plan (2022-2026) to promote steady and sustained economic and trade cooperation. The sub-committee should play an important role in advancing the implementation of key projects, creating new financing models, and accelerating digital and green empowerment. A guidance mechanism should be established to facilitate sub-national economic and trade cooperation. Uzbekistan is welcome to participate in the 4th China International Import Expo to present more high-quality and green agricultural products. The two sides should also carry out cross-border transport cooperation to improve logistics efficiency while ensuring epidemic control

Voitov Aziz said that Uzbekistan and China have actively acted on the leaders' consensus and achieved sound economic and trade cooperation. Uzbekistan is willing to sign the economic, trade and investment cooperation plan as soon as possible, actively participate in the 4th CIIE, expand agricultural exports to China and strive to achieve the $10 billion trade target at an early date. Uzbekistan looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Chinese enterprises and financial institutions, and hopes the two sides can work expeditiously to match promising investment projects. China’s assistance with Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO is appreciated. Uzbekistan will work with China to deliver more fruitful results in bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
