Biography

Yu Jianhua, male, a Han national, is a native of Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. Born in December 1961, Yu started his career in August 1982 and joined the CPC in June 1991. He has a Master's Degree in Law and acquired an MBA.

Having worked successively as the Second Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of the Mission of China to the EU and the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, Deputy Division Director and Division Director of the Department of European Affairs and Division Director of the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC), Yu was promoted to Deputy Director-General of the Department of WTO Affairs of MOFTEC in November 2001 and Director-General of the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) in October 2006. From July 2007 to August 2008 he served on secondment as Deputy Secretary-General and member of Party Leadership Group of the General Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In December 2010, Yu started to serve as member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce. Yu was appointed Assistant Minister and member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce in January 2011 and was promoted to Deputy China International Trade Representative (vice minister's level) and member of the CPC Leadership Group of MOFCOM in May 2013. In October 2013, Yu took office as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of China to the WTO and the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland. In February 2017, Yu was appointed as Vice Minister, Deputy China International Trade Representative and member of the CPC Leadership Group of MOFCOM. In December 2017, Yu started to serve as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of China to the UN Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland. In March 2019, Yu was appointed as Deputy Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce. In April 2019, Yu took office as Deputy Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce, Vice Minister of Commerce, and Deputy China International Trade Representative. In January 2021, Yu was appointed Deputy Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce, China International Trade Representative (minister's level), and Vice Minister of Commerce.
