China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister Yu Jianhua: Jointly building a stronger and closer SCO community with a shared future

On June 23, 2021, the Economic Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, participated by representatives from economic and trade departments, enterprises and think tanks of member states and observer states. Yu Jianhua, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce delivered a virtual speech at the forum.

Yu Jianhua said that this Economic Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is of great significance for building consensus, promoting economic recovery and making good economic and trade preparations for the summit. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the SCO. In the past 20 years, upholding the “Shanghai Spirit”, member states have done a lot of effective work in promoting practical cooperation such as taking regional trade cooperation to a new height, connectivity and making joint efforts against COVID-19.

Yu Jianhua pointed out that China is stepping up efforts to foster a new development paradigm with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other, which will provide broader markets and development opportunities for the SCO states. He suggested that all parties should join hands to jointly promote regional economic cooperation for the SCO: First, promote trade liberalization and facilitation and promote the recovery of economic and trade cooperation. Second, work together to build a market-oriented and law-based business environment and firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of market players. Third, jointly enhance connectivity and actively participate in China-Europe Railway Express cooperation. Fourth, strengthen cooperation on digital economy and service trade, and speed up the signing of cooperation documents on service trade and cross-border e-commerce. Fifth, promote green and sustainable growth, and jointly cultivate green industries and develop green trade.
