China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua meets with Stephan Woellenstein, Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Volkswagen Group China

During a meeting held on the morning of May 18th between Yu Jianhua, Vice Minister of Commerce and China International Trade Representative and Stephan Woellenstein, Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Volkswagen Group China, the auto maker’s business development in China and personnel exchanges between the two countries were discussed.

Yu Jianhua said that since it entered the Chinese market in 1984, Volkswagen has come a long way and become a household brand in China. Volkswagen is a witness and contributor to China's reform and opening up and Sino-German commercial cooperation. After the outbreak of COVID-19, Volkswagen’s business in China has maintained a growing momentum. China welcomes Volkswagen to continue expanding its investment in China and is willing to facilitate German business people to visit China following sound prevention and control measures. We hope that Volkswagen and Mr. Woellenstein will play a positive role in helping German business community to understand China more comprehensively, objectively and fairly, and contribute to the sound and stable development of bilateral commercial relations.

Woellenstein said that Volkswagen has benefited a great deal from China's economic development and its reform and opening up, and will further expand its investment and operations in China and increase its R&D and production in the field of electric vehicles. Volkswagen is willing to play an active role as a “bridge” to enhance mutual trust between China and Germany and China and Europe.
