China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Yu Jianhua Meets with Croatian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tomislav Ćorić

On May 27, while accompanying Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee to visit Croatia, Yu Jianhua, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, met with Croatian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tomislav Ćorić to exchange views on the implementation of the outcomes and consensus of the China-CEEC Summit and strengthening China-Croatia economic and trade cooperation.

Minister Yu said that on February 9, President Xi Jinping chaired the China-CEEC Summit where he delivered a keynote speech, guiding the direction for deepening China-CEEC cooperation. We need to overcome the difficulties of COVID-19, earnestly implement the outcomes and consensus of the Summit, and work towards positive outcomes of China-Croatia practical cooperation. Croatian companies are welcome to participate in the China-CEEC Expo and the China International Import Expo. China is willing to import more quality agricultural products from Croatia, improve the visibility of Croatian products and businesses in China, and push for balanced development of trade. China is willing to take active part in Croatia’s green and digital transformation, strengthen cooperation on railways, ports and other transport infrastructure, and strive for new progress in the development of the Belt & Road Initiative. The two sides should make most of the mechanism of the Economic Joint Committee to enhance policy communication. It is hoped that Croatia can play a positive role within the EU and create a favorable policy environment for China-EU and China-Croatia trade and economic cooperation. China welcomes Croatian business delegations to visit China after the end of the pandemic.

Minister Ćorić welcomed the Chinese delegation to visit Croatia during the pandemic. Croatia regards China as an important partner of trade and economic cooperation, supports the China-CEEC cooperation mechanism and is satisfied with the steady progress in major cooperation projects such as the Peresac Bridge and the Senj Wind Farm. The Croatian government will step up efforts to explore the Chinese market and hopes that China can facilitate Croatian exports of wine, olive oil, meat and other agri-food and products to China. Croatia also welcomes Chinese companies to make investment and conduct technological cooperation in Croatia, and to contribute to the low-carbon development strategy by leveraging the country’s geographical strengths to explore the EU and surrounding markets. Minister Ćorić looked forward to leading the Croatian business delegation to visit China as early as possible when the pandemic conditions permit.
