Yu Jianhua: Bringing China-Azerbaijan Practical Cooperation to a New Level

On the afternoon of October 27, Yu Jianhua, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, and Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, co-chaired the 8th meeting of the China-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee by video link, and exchanged views on implementing the consensus of leaders of the two countries and deepening practical trade and economic cooperation.

Yu Jianhua said that in June this year, President Xi Jinping and President Ilham Aliyev had a phone conversation, reaching important consensus on promoting BRI cooperation and enhancing cooperation in multiple areas, charting the way forward for China-Azerbaijan practical cooperation. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the two sides overcame difficulties brought by the pandemic to further deepen and consolidate trade and economic cooperation. A series of cooperation projects in areas such as oil development, information and communications and construction and building materials are well underway. The number of China-Europe Railway Express trains running along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route achieved substantial growth and effective results.

Yu Jianhua emphasized that China and Azerbaijan are about to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2022. MOFCOM stands ready to work with Azerbaijan to implement the important consensus reached by the two Presidents, promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, achieving more practical results in areas such as trade and investment, connectivity and health care, diversifying cooperation areas, deepening local and business exchanges, expanding trade, enhancing green and digital empowerment and creating new growth areas for trade and economic cooperation.

Shahin Mustafayev said that Azerbaijan would like to thank China for its support and assistance to Azerbaijan in fighting the COVID-19. Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, attaching great importance to developing economic cooperation and trade with China. Azerbaijan stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China in infrastructure, cross-border transportation, information and communication, digital economy, industrial parks and other areas, which will further optimize the investment and business environment. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan stands ready to work with China to further tap the potential and bring bilateral economic and trade cooperation to a new level, benefiting the two peoples.

After the meeting, both parties signed the meeting minutes.
